Rixty Zendala Lesson

Yesterday (Friday) Clubbers and I had a really love time creating an asymmetrical Zendala using items pulled out from the Art Raffle app. One of the Clubbers pulled out a challenging game (Denyse G. J.) and I couldn’t resist playing with it. Thank you Denyse!

The challenge here was the presence of two strong string cards. The most common configuration for the Zendala is a radial, centered design, (similar to most mandalas), but I wanted to play with the second string pulled out that was the Fan String.

After laying out the double string, we added freeform knots using Jaysix (Eni Oken) tangle, blending into Rixty and ending in Zinger (both from Zentangle). Next, some Patena and Crazy Huggins (also Zentangle).

Finally, we played with Paradox drawing behind the fan:

We also explored shading, and I showed students how to tackle each tangle:

We had a fabulous group of some 50 people working together, here are some of their drawings. What a great session, time just flew by.

Here is a close-up of the piece I made myself, finished after class. I added a little bit of watercolor in the negative space (thanks Lisa G.!).

As usual, all my online live classes are available for all Art Clubbers. Video recordings are made available for those who cannot participate. Learn more here
