Blue Flower Zendala class
Last Thursday I taught this intricate Blue Flower Zendala project for the second time. The first one was at TangleU2022, an event for Certified Zentangle Teachers. This time I taught this class to my Art Club and I will probably do it one more time for a private group.
The project starts with a string based almost entirely on proportions (halves, thirds):
The idea was to complete one third of the Zendala, covering a variety of techniques. This way students can complete this project at their leisure - a little at a time. This is particularly helpful if you have a busy schedule, just save your materials in one project box and it can be worked on at any time.
We used a variety of different techniques, including pencil watercolors, colored pencils for shading and fine-liners.
Since this is a very complex piece, I broke it down into smaller, digestible pieces.
I also included specific references on how to create the Renaissance brown on tan version you see here:
The Clubbers did an amazing job! Here you can see some of their partially completed Zendalas.

Last week the lovely Jane Osborne conducted us through a session at CZT After Hours creating a star string. After I filled it up with tangles - Hamsix (Alena Light), Betweed, Fluxecho (Lynn Mead) and others, I decided to shade this with ballpoint pen again - not my brightest decision. I think I might have overdone it this time…
