Stylized Da Vinci Sketchpage on Phi
As part of my new class Da Vinci Zendala (inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci and Zentangle’s ZenAgain 2021 class), I started to play with a tan Phi tile, working the background and adding some of Da Vinci's little sketches. You can find a ton of his pages here.
When I showed this to my Art Clubbers, they asked me to post a video on how to make it, so I included it as a supplemental video the Da Vinci Zendala.
Here’s a before and after:
I think what really makes these two pieces fun is the overall distress done using colored pencils. Super fun and easy. Here's a closer shot:

This arch is adapted from a Renaissance arch from the book “Suggestions of Design” by John Leighton and James Colling (1880) found on archive dot org. I also added some Found Flowers on a frame around the arch. Shaded and colored with Inktense and Pitt Artist Brush pens. If you goto my blog you'll see I wasn’t able to stay faithful to the original - I love the way my hand just takes over and adds whatever details it feels like.
