Flowing Frameworks from Rome

I can't believe I didn't post this one yet, it totally slipped through the cracks. This one was created October 2019, inspired by my recent trip to Europe. While in Rome, I was overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur of the historic buildings, embellished carvings seem to swim everywhere.

I was mesmerized by the layers and layers of ornate buildings in that vast and impressive city, near and far. To simulate that feeling, I created a string with 3 flowing ribbons, or frameworks (foreground, middle-ground and background), each one packed to the brim with tiny repetitive patterns. After shading, the result is rich and incredibly 3-dimensional.

I don't have the original line-art for this one, but I recreated a similar situation for you to understand:

Here is a close-up for you to inspect:

I didn't really use any named tangles, these are all simple, repetitive thin borders. The picture took an ENORMOUS amount of time to create, and that's probably why I forgot to post it when it was done!
