Straight Lines and Voadora tangle

Yesterday Art Clubbers and I had a SUPER fun session tangling on Zoom with Straight line tangles. We used only tangles that have straight lines, that is, that use the I of ICSO.

The acronym ICSO represents the 5 Elemental Strokes used to create every possible tangle:

We started with Phroz (Lynn Mead) and Naaki (Nadine Roller) over a string of straight lines:

Next, we added Anthem (Jody Genovese) and also Hollibaugh filled in with Auraknot:

After that, I introduced a new tangle called “Voadora”. This is a Portuguese word that means “Flyer”, because the third step of the tangle reminded me of the wings of some kind of flying contraption. I simply love the way that the tangle forms a meta-pattern, that is a rounded curve even though it’s entirely made of straight lines. This is similar to what happens to Paradox.

So we added a bit of Voadora to the empty spots.

Here's the original picture I created for the class along with the one developed during class:

We had about 60 participants in the class! Here are some of their beautiful pictures:
