Slits challenge

Inspired by a picture created by the talented Antonine Koval, our challenge of the week at the Shading Zentangle® group is to create a picture with one or more slits, that is, lines on the paper that, when shaded in a particular way, make the paper look like it has a cut. This is not a tangle per se, it is more of a concept. Notice that the slit is IMAGINARY, that is, it doesn't really exist in reality, it's just the drawing that makes it look that way.

These are some studies:

(One of these took a pretty organic turn, sheesh!)

This is the final art, created on 3.5 white tile:

Main tangles are Kristillis (deconstructed by Melissa Sansom), Pufcookie (stepout here), Narwal (deconstructed by Sam Taylor).

There is no "before" or intermediate picture of any kind. I was not able to take a picture when I created this one, and only had the black and sepia pen, and the gray markers with me.

Fun exercise!
