Practicing Medusa
I think the entire Zentangle community is a little in love with Tomas Padro's new tangle Medusa. What a super fun tangle to play with! Last Thursday my Art Clubbers and I experimented with it during our "Tangle Play” session (a live session in between classes where we play with tangles and make step-outs).
I made two practice tiles after the class to warm up. I feel that now I have more or less a hang of the shading and the way the tile meanders organically like hair. Here's the first practice tile:
And here's a short step-out. You'll notice how I created a square grid with a pencil before creating the ogee grid, and I didn't care much for that method - the ogee turned out too wide in my opinion. I would rather create the ogee grid directly, intuitively. I love the shading though!
Here's the second tile, this time creating the ogee vertically and more intuitively. I like it a bit better, the ogee is more elegant and elongated. Of course after a while I got a little tired and couldn't resist, my hand introduced some kind of strange Eofer (Irist Heidt) there. :-)
Here's the before and after shading:
I love the tangle and suspect that Medusa is going to make more appearances in my art. Thank you Tomàs!

This piece feels like it's part of a series started several months ago. Aside from Verve, Mysealiam and Spention, I also used several unnamed fragments found in some of photographs I took during trips and outings.
